Answers to Common Questions About Roofing, Cabinetry, and Our Services in Florida

Roofing

Here in Orlando, your roof battles intense sun, torrential rains, hurricane-force winds, and high humidity. We prioritize durability, wind resistance, and energy efficiency. Our top recommendations are:

  • Metal Roofing: Our #1 recommendation. Stands up to extreme winds (easily meeting Florida Building Code high-velocity requirements), sheds rain efficiently, reflects heat (lowering cooling costs), resists algae/mold, and lasts 40+ years. Great investment for long-term peace of mind.
  • Concrete Tile Roofing: Exceptionally durable, excellent wind resistance, superb fire rating, and provides natural insulation. Handles our heat well and lasts 50+ years. Heavier, so structural integrity must be confirmed.
  • Clay Tile Roofing: Classic Florida look, incredibly long-lasting (60+ years), excellent wind and fire resistance, and naturally cools your home. Like concrete, weight is a consideration.
  • High-Performance Asphalt Shingles: Specifically, impact-resistant (Class 3 or 4) and algae-resistant architectural shingles rated for 130+ MPH winds. A cost-effective option that performs well when installed correctly for our storms. Typical lifespan is 20-30 years.

A full roof replacement typically takes 1–3 days of active work once materials are staged. However, total project duration varies by county due to mandatory inspections:

Installation:

  • 1 day (smaller roofs) to 3 days (complex/large roofs).
  • County Inspections: Adds 1–2 business days (we coordinate these seamlessly).
  • Total Timeline: 3–5 business days start-to-finish in most Central Florida counties.

We stand firmly behind our work and the products we install:

  • Manufacturer’s Material Warranty: This covers defects in the roofing material itself (shingles, tiles, metal panels). Length varies significantly (e.g., Lifetime limited for metal, 30-50 years for tile, 25-50 years for premium shingles). We use top brands with strong warranties.
  • J&J QUALITY BUILDERS Workmanship Warranty: This is our promise on the installation. We offer a strong
  • Shingle 3 years
  • Tiles 5 years
  • Metal 8 to 15 years                                                        Workmanship  Waranty covering leaks or issues arising directly from our installation. This is crucial – a manufacturer won’t cover installer errors. Our warranty is fully transferable, adding value to your home.

We always start with a thorough inspection to determine the best solution:

Repair is Often Viable If: The leak is localized, the source is clear (e.g., damaged flashing around a vent, a few missing shingles after a storm), the surrounding roof structure is sound, and your roof is generally in good condition (often less than 10-15 years old for asphalt). We specialize in precise leak detection and repair.

Replacement is Usually Recommended If:The leak is widespread or there are multiple leaks. The roof decking is significantly damaged or rotten.Your roof is near or past its expected lifespan (15-20+ years for asphalt, longer for tile/metal).There’s extensive storm damage affecting large areas.

Our Promise: We’ll never recommend a full replacement unless it’s truly necessary. We’ll provide an honest assessment, explain your options clearly (including cost comparisons), and let you decide. Often, investing in a replacement is more cost-effective long-term than repeated repairs on an aging roof.

Cabinetry

Both. Because your kitchen shouldn’t settle.

  • Custom: Dream it? We’ll build it. Perfect for odd spaces, luxury finishes, and hidden spice drawers.
  • Pre-made: Save 20–40% with our premium semi-custom lines (still tailored to your kitchen).

Orlando humidity – it’s a thing! For cabinets that last and look good, especially near sinks and dishwashers, here’s the key:

  • Plywood: Our #1 recommendation. Strong, stable, and resists warping and moisture WAY better than particleboard. Worth the investment for longevity.
  • High-Density Particleboard: A decent budget option if it’s sealed very well. Okay for upper cabinets, less ideal for bases near water.
  • Solid Wood: Beautiful, classic, durable (maple, oak, cherry). Can expand/contract slightly with humidity, but a good finish protects it. Choose stable woods.
  • MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard): Excellent for painted finishes! Super smooth, very stable (doesn’t warp), and affordable. Must have a great moisture-resistant paint/sealant, especially near water. Our go-to for painted looks.
  • Plywood: Also great for painted doors, very stable and strong.

The Magic is in the Finish: No matter the material, a high-quality, moisture-resistant finish (like catalyzed conversion varnish or premium polyurethane) is CRUCIAL in Florida. It seals the wood/MDF and creates a barrier against steam, spills, and sticky fingers. We never cut corners here!

Absolutely! We LOVE saving great cabinets! If your cabinet boxes are solid (plywood or good wood) and the layout works, refinishing or repainting is often a fantastic, budget-savvy option.

Great Candidates: Cabinets that are structurally sound, doors aren’t warped, layout is functional, just outdated or worn finish.

The Process: It’s involved! We meticulously clean, repair, sand and apply multiple coats of durable, cabinet-grade paint or stain. We can replace doors/drawers if needed while keeping your boxes. The transformation is incredible!

When Replacement is Better: If cabinets are particleboard and water-damaged/warped, structurally unsound, or you desperately want a new layout. We’ll be honest about what makes sense.

Yes, you get peace of mind! Warranties have two parts:

  • Manufacturer Warranty: Covers defects in the cabinet materials themselves (like faulty hinges, drawer slides, or material flaws). The length varies (often 1 year to lifetime on hardware, 5-10+ years on materials). We use suppliers with strong reputations.
  • Our Workmanship Warranty (The Important One!): This is our promise on the installation and finishing. We offer a 5-Year Warranty on Workmanship. This covers:

We stand behind our craft. We use the right materials, apply finishes meticulously, and install everything level and square to minimize these risks. Ask us for the specific warranty details on your chosen cabinets!
